OSx86 – from word of OS X and x86 – is a collaborative hacking project to run a computer operating system Mac OS X on non-Apple PCs that have processors with x86 architecture.
Stretching Hackintosh begun in June 2005, at WDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) Apple announced the use of an Intel, PowerPC replace that become the brain of the computer they were made.
In January 2006, Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.4 on the iMac and the MacBook Pro. Both are first-generation Apple machines using Intel processors.

Autumn 2004

This autumn saw a welcome return of tutor Judith Hodgkinson. The course "Looking at Pictures" exceeded expectations, with Judith showing a wide range of landscapes, portraits and abstract paintings from major artists, beginning at the Italian Renaissance and going up to the Twentieth Century.
Using digital images we looked at the pictures, rather than just seeing them, learning to appreciate the elements within painting, i.e. composition structure, perspective device, and technique, from fresco and oil painting to watercolour and etching. With a visit to the Ashmolean Museum along the way, we feel that we have had an excellent introduction to Art History. Judith is an excellent tutor, usin
Spring 2006 - Families, Fields & Farms: Sources for Village History

Our autumn 2005 course "Anglo-Saxon and Viking England" was given by Dr Denise Cowley and looked at the archaeology of England during the Anglo-Saxon and Viking era (c. AD 400 - 1066). Topics included the archaeological evidence for British resistance under the legendary King Arthur, the famous Sutton Hoo Ship Burial, and Viking York (Jorvik).
Denise brought the latest information on this fascinating subject to Helmdon. It
urse entitled “Families, Fields and Farms: Sources for Village History”.
The tutor, Deborah Haytor M.A, discussed historical sources in tandem with a close look at the village communities of the past. Because Deborah is a local historian who has lived in South Northamptonshire and North Oxfordshire for most of her life, she was able to tailor the course to relate to the history of Helmdon.
The course was extremely interesting and stimulating, and it is to be hoped that as a result, more topics will get researched to find their way into another "Aspects of Helmdon" publication.
Autumn 2006 - Talking About Gardens

Andrew Mikolajski has written many books on gardening (as for the New Plant Library and the R H.S), and so he came to lecture at the WEA with the benefit of a very knowledgeable background.
Members particularly enjoyed his sessions on pruning ("when to prune" will always bring up thoughts of his strictures), the do's and don'ts of garden design (from now on who will ever put white flowers or glazed pots in the garden without thinking of him?), and some of us were fascinated to learn about botanical names.
We are grateful for the enthusiasm that Andrew brought to the course, and his influence will, we are sure, be felt in our gardening from now on.
Spring 2006 - Families, Fields & Farms: Sources for Village History
Spring 2007 - Course on Comparative Religions

Whatever our individual beliefs we can all benefit from an understanding of other people's faiths".
Taking the above statement as the starting point, our tutor Ted Bray enlightened us as to how the world's major religions and some of the smaller religions developed over time.
It was fascinating to learn about the similarities and differences between the beliefs and practices of followers of different faiths.
With many current news stories illustrating some aspect of religious belief, it was very helpful to be able to discuss the problems associated with the diverse cultural perceptions held throughout the world today.
We are very grateful to Ted for sharing his wide knowledge of this subject with us.
Autumn 2007 - The Lost & Deserted Villages of Northamptonshire

This was a very popular course that looked in detail at some of this county's 82 lost or deserted villages. Our tutor, Ted Walmsley, had completed new research on several such villages and was keen to share his knowledge with us.
Many of these lost or deserted villages were already known to us, so it was very interesting to learn more about their history. Through this course we were able to understand the circumstances that caused villages to be deserted throughout various periods in history.
We saw how evidence of village depopulation could be found by analysis of historical documents, examination of aerial photos, and by looking at results of previous archaeological surveys. Ted's own photos were used to very good effect to show how evidence left in the landscape often provides clues as to the previous location, size and occupation of villages.
Thanks to Ted we now have a much better understanding of our own local area. And, as many of the lost and deserted villages are very close to home, we now have ample opportunity to visit and investigate further.
Autumn 2008 - Olympics, Airports and Art Museums

To start with we looked at past ideas and beliefs about well-being, disease and healing. Then we examined teratments and remedies used to cure a wide range of ailments. We learnt who prepared the remedies, and who was able to provide a range of treatments.
We considered how people knew which plant or other materials to select and then prepare for medicinal purposes. Some of the ingredients were familiar to us and accepted in modern medicine. Others, such as metals and animal waste products, may or may not have been beneficial, but definitely wouldn’t appeal today.
It was quite striking how the remedy would vary depending on what you could afford to pay. In some cases the remedy seemed to be to eat a vast meal, an option not available to the less well-off. Maybe the remedy for those that could afford less was more effective!
Thanks to Patricia we are now better able to appreciate the influence that magic and medicine had on the population throughout recorded history.
Helmdon Branch WEA - Past Courses

he Great Central was the last main line built from The North through Northamptonshire to London. Our tutor Martin Bloxsom brought the subject to life for a group of 19 students from Helmdon and beyond.
We examined how the railway came to be built and how its engines, rolling stock and staffing evolved over time. We studied the financial and other problems of running a railway in the face of strong competition, and during a period of war.
In addition to the railway itself, we also learnt about the significant impact that the Great Central Railway had on the social History of the Midlands.
Technology

At St. Joseph Hospital, our belief in placing the latest technology in caring hands has led to clinical outcomes well above national standards. As a healthcare leader and pioneer, St. Joseph Hospital offers numerous high-tech tools and procedures that can maximize the likelihood of successful treatment:
* Anal Manometry
Anal manometry checks the tightness of the anal sphincter and its ability to respond to signals, as well as the sensitivity and function of the rectum.
* Anal Neurodiagnostic Evaluation
Aids in diagnosing and assessing disorders of the lower urinary tract and the colorectal area.
* ARIA Computer management System
ARIA is a comprehensive information and image management system that manages patient information into a single, organized, oncology-specific medical chart. ARIA's electronic medical record (EMR) effectively manages treatment for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
* Breast MRI and Biopsy Capability
In March 2007, the American Cancer Society updated its breast cancer screening recommendations to include annual breast MRI for women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. MRI-guided biopsy is less invasive than surgery, and is less likely to cause side effects or complications such as bleeding or infection. Done under local anesthesia, MRI-guided biopsy also eliminates the risks of general anesthesia.
* CADstream for Breast MRI
A computer-aided-detection (CAD) system automates the processing of data-intensive breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Physicians and MRI technologists spend a significant amount of time manually processing and interpreting breast MRI studies. CADstream automates breast MR image processing functions and corrects for patient movement that can occur during a study for better quality control.
* Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (Ci Navigation system)
The Ci System gives the surgeon an unobstructed, on screen, 3-D view of the patient’s knee joint for more precise placement of implants during knee replacement surgeries.
* da Vinci Robotic Surgical System
The da Vinci Surgical System gives surgeons and their patients an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. The da Vinci System places a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. It enables them to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures for urology, gynecology, oncology and pediatric patients through very small incisions with unmatched precision. More
* Defecography
Defocography is an x-ray test to evaluate the function of the rectum and pelvic floor muscles.
* Digital Mammography
Digital mammography is a mammography system where x-ray film is replaced by detectors similar to those found in digital cameras. From a computer screen, the image can then be enlarged or highlighted.
* Digital Skin Imaging
Creates baseline digital photographs of the entire surface of your skin. This is particularly helpful for early detection in persons at risk for melanoma and other skin cancers.
* Eclipse Treatment Planning System
The Eclipse System creates 3D images of the tumor and internal organs, assists in calculating treatment plans, and accurately calculates dose distributions for photons, electrons, protons and brachytherapy. This allows the St. Joseph Hospital radiation oncology team to compare and quickly evaluate different treatment options and decide on the most effective course of treatment for each patient.
* Electron Beam Computed Tomography (EBCT)
EBCT is a super fast computed tomography (CT) scan used to predict your risk for heart disease. It provides a snapshot of the calcium buildup in your coronary arteries – a major cause of heart attacks.
* Endorectal Ultrasound and MRI
Endorectal ultrasound is used for the diagnosis and management of certain rectal abscesses, rectal tumor evaluation and staging, and anal sphincter evaluation for incontinence.
* Hana Table
This surgical table is a minimally invasive tool enabling the surgeon to replace the hip through a single incision, anterior approach without detachment of muscle from the pelvis or femur.
* Hyperbaric Chamber
New North museum ad employs latest technology

The very latest film production technology has been used to create a TV ad for the new Great North Museum. Newcastle-based Superkrush has invested £50,000 in a revolutionary new camera which has been used by top international filmmakers such as Peter Jackson who directed ‘The Lord of the Rings.’
The former Hancock Museum, which closed its doors to the public in April 2006, has been transformed into a world-class visitor attraction as part of the £26 million Great North Museum project.
The TV commercial shot by Superkrush Film, will be aired across ITV Tyne Tees and Border for a six-month period from Monday 11 May and features a girl who is preparing the night before for the grand opening of the museum.
Chris Taylor, producer at Superkrush, which was commissioned directly to do the advert, said: “We have produced the commercial with the theme of the 2006 Ben Stiller movie ‘Night at the Museum’, where all the museum exhibits have come to life.
“The main character is a girl who is frantically trying to have the museum ready in time for the opening by putting the reptiles back in their cages and tidying up the mess made by the life size elephants. It is like a fantasy land where the museum has come magically to life.”
The advertisement also features many of the museum’s big attractions such as a life-size T-Rex dinosaur skeleton, a miniature interactive model of Hadrian’s Wall, displays showing the wonder of the animal and plant kingdoms, mummies from Ancient Egypt and a planetarium.
Superkrush intends to share its new camera with the launch of a new service. It will rent it out plus give training and workflow support to ad agencies that can use the equipment for feature films, commercials and music videos.
Install Latest Technology Windshield Wipers for Safer Driving This Winter

There's no predicting bad weather. It may come upon you during any season. However, bad weather during winter takes on a far more 'frightening' hue -- especially if you happen to be on the road. When heavy rain, sleet, and blowing wind and/or snow make it hard to see the road ahead, properly functioning windshield wipers become your most valued source of driving safety. But what if you take it a step further this year and install the latest technology wipers designed for just this kind of weather?
"This winter, motorists should consider upgrading to advanced technology 'bracketless' blades for peace of mind and safer driving, no matter what the weather," suggested Tom Vasis, Group Product Manager, Wiper Systems for Bosch, the world's largest supplier of wiper blades to vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket. "Premium bracketless blades -- sometimes referred to as 'beam blades' -- are specifically designed to improve driving visibility in snow, mist, drizzle and heavy rain," he said.
Why Go For Wiper Blades Based

Learn More About Drivers Ed Direct:
Quality Drivers Education & Environmental Care

Drivers Ed Direct is dedicated to helping the environment in a number of ways. Starting with the vehicles - each of our gas-electric hybrids feature near-zero emissions. With nearly one third of our country's air pollution being attributed to vehicle emissions, this is our way of making sure that the thousands of miles driven by our student drivers are done so cleanly and efficiently. The vehicles in our fleet produce 97 percent less hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen emissions than vehicles that meet today's nationwide top emissions standard.
In addition, when taking an online drivers education class, parents are not required to drive them to a class. Traditional drivers ed classes last approximately four days, which adds up to eight times each student has to be driven to and from class. As a result of taking an online class, fewer vehicles are on the road and fewer emissions are released into the atmosphere.
The philosophy of protecting the environment runs throughout each level of the Drivers Ed Direct office. From the executive level to our customer service representatives, each is dedicated to promoting a green office environment. Every action, from recycling paper, ink, toner cartridges and plastic products to using recycled paper stock for promotional materials, is done with environmental conscientiousness in mind.
Going the Extra Mile... Without the Extra Gas

With the ever-prevalent pollution emitted by standard vehicles worsening our Greenhouse effect, the need for more efficient vehicles is a legitimate concern for today's driving world. This is especially true when it comes to driving schools that have an entire fleet of training vehicles running non stop, 14 hours a day. When putting over 1000 miles on the road each day, finding an environmentally conscious training solution should be a goal of any driving school. At Drivers Ed Direct, we've put these words into action by utilizing an entirely hybrid fleet, including Toyota Prius hybrids and Ford Escape hybrid SUVs. By using hybrid driver training vehicles, we've been able to realize the following environmental benefits:
# Not moving? Not using gas: Part of any driving school training curriculum involves significant portions of the lessons spent parked curbside discussing key driving concepts. While a hybrid Prius or Hybrid Escape idles, the gas motor automatically shuts off. Thus no gas is being burnt!
# Cutting Our Carbon Foot Print Nearly in Half: Inevitably any driving school fleet is going to drive hundreds of thousands of miles each year. That means using hybrid cars and hybrid SUV training vehicles can reduce our environmental impact by tens of thousand miles each year!
# A Teen Thinking Green? What better way to move environmental friendliness into the minds of today's youth than by having their first driving experience be in a Hybrid vehicle? Teaching students in eco-friendly vehicles gives them a chance to have a "hybrid experience" they may not otherwise get. In fact, several students and parents have decided to make a Hybrid vehicle purchase after experiencing driver training with us.
But don't take our word for it. Check out the Hybrid Impact Calculator fact sheet to see just how much more efficient our driver training fleet is versus the competition's inefficient standard training vehicles.

OZFIL™ Treatment Systems
EZ-Canvas is for your desktop monitor, functioning like the Laptop Pen.

All these pen work wirelessly, including the TabletMouse pen that works on a table’s surface providing also mouse functionality. You can see what you’re writing directly on the monitor and in real-time.
The PhonePen works similar, but it was designed for smartphones’ displays. The receiver clips on the paper sheet and the sketches appear on the screen.
Navisis’s Amazing Pens

Here we have a to mention the Laptop Pen designed to transform your portable computer into a digital notebook with handwriting recognition, the TabletMouse wireless pen mouse, the PhonePen and the EZ-Canvas.
Starting with the Laptop Pen, we can say it’s a great tool set consisting of a digital pen and a receiver that clips on your computer monitor, both enabling the touchscreen functionality for the laptop’s screen.
Of course, there is also a specially designed layer that applies on the display’s surface to protect it from scratches caused by the pen.
You can get the Zpen from Advanced MP3 Players for £74.

Similar pens include the IOGEAR Mobile Digital Scribe that displays your writing in real-time on a computer, and the io2 Digital Pen introduced by Logitech and transferred to Destiny Wireless. The latter is a handwriting data collector capable of transferring your work on the computer it connects to, either via the Bluetooth wireless connectivity or the USB cable.
model costs $149, while the 2GB version is available at $199.

Dane-Elec Zpen
Zpen has a cool and high-tech look, while providing a portable solution for writing your notes.
Its main capability is to translate your handwriting into digital format on the computer it connects to via USB.
You can write on any type of paper as long as you keep the receiver clipped on the sheet, and store up to 1GB of data. More than that, if you use the software it comes with, you can search for keywords among handwriting notes – a rare characteristic of digital pens.
Top 10 Smartest Pens Among the Latest Gadgets in Technology

The closer we get to the first position in our top smarter pens we encounter, and one of the most spectacular from all the latest gadgets in technology is this high-end model from Livescribe, measuring 14 x 16 mm at 36 grams.
Inside the pen, Livescribe added several modules each providing a special functionality.
First, there is a Samsung ARM 9 32-bit processor of 150MHz, a 96 x 18 OLED display, a high-speed built-in camera with infrared technology for recording 70 images per second, NAND storage, a 300 mAh rechargeable lithium battery, dual microphones, built-in speaker, USB charging cradle, and support for the following software: Page Viewer, Pen & Application, as well as the access to an online community of Pulse Smart Pen users, where you have the possibility to store up to 250MB of data.
We don’t think it deserves a higher position because in order to use it you need special paper to write on, and it can’t transfer your sketches to the computer in real-time. You’ll need to connect it at a later time to the PC for managing your notes, or transfer data and applications onto the pen’s memory.
The main function of this pen model is to record audio sequences while you are writing, and play them whenever you need to recall specific aspects in your work.
Anyway, if you are interested in purchasing it, you need to know the prices. The 1GB
The spy kit is available at 220.06 EUR.

6. DocuPen RC800
This is one of the smartest pens available. It has an advanced scanning functionality enabled in a very small form factor that allows you to carry it with you wherever you go, inside a pocket or laptop bag.
DocuPen RC800 is a wireless color scanner introduced by the Canadian company called Planon, as the world’s smallest full page, full color 24 bit portable scanner, which stores hundreds of pages in its 8MB internal flash memory expandable up to 1GB via a microSD card.
It allows you to scan color graphics or black/white sketches at up to 24-bit color with 400 dpi resolution.
It powers from a rechargeable Li-Ion battery and uses optical timing to scan 205 mm width in 4-8 seconds per page. After finishing your work you can connect it to the computer via USB to transfer the scanned images and prepare them for printing.
Perfect Office Mate - USB Flash Pen with Laser - 8GB

. One Battery Mobile Charger Pen
It does what its name suggests – helps in resuscitating mobile phones with a pen.
The $19 smart pen uses one AA or Ni-Mh battery and every time you need a power backup tool you can connect your cell phone to the pen and wait about 100 minutes for charging. This will provide you with up to 2 hours of battery life or 20 hours of standby in case of emergency.
In addition, it comes with 5 different cell phone adapters matching the most popular models on the market like Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
Top 10 Smartest Pens Among the Latest Gadgets in Technology

10. Signal Pen
We placed the Signal Pen on the last position because even if it has a smart design, it has only one main functionality in addition to writing. It sports an ergonomic shape for comfortable writing, but what differentiates it among the latest gadgets in technology is the ability to alert the user when to relax the hand and fingers.
Signal Pen is one of the best ergonomic tools for writing and was designed in such a way to register the excessive tension of your muscles, based on the Tensor concept, which states that restricted mobility of hands during gripping and pinching causes tension in the deep neck muscles, leading to psychological stress, pain in the neck and shoulders, as well as swelling of arms and hands.

Mitsubishi HC5000BL projector

"We have the latest technology, the latest features, and the highest quality performance available today." The HC5000BL is designed with new inorganic LCD panels that are more durable and provide a more color-consistent, even-toned image than previous generation LCD panels. The LCD optical engine is enclosed to prevent dust from entering the engine, which decreases the number of particles landing on the LCD panels, and keeps the image cleaner. Mitsubishi's HC5000BL delivers HQV through Silicon Optix's Reon-VX chip, which provides true HQV four-field, motion-adaptive, per-pixel, high-definition (HD) deinterlacing that delivers the sharpest and most detailed HD images possible. The HQV multi-direction diagonal filter removes any "jaggies" and/or stair-step artifacts from deinterlaced video sources without blurring the image, while sophisticated noise reduction technology removes the noise and artifacts caused by compression.

Through an easily accessed lamp housing, users simply switch the lamps without taking the mounting structure apart and physically handling the projector
Alcatel looks forward to retro-styled 'vintage' slider

Alcatel Mobile Phones' latest offering may not appeal to phone fans looking for the latest technology, but it looks a solid enough handset for consumers with more modest needs.
Dubbed the OT-C825 Vintage Slider, it's anything but old fashioned: the handset has dedicated music playback keys; a 176 x200, 262,144-colour display; Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP wireless stereo technology; and a six-hour talk time.
The camera's resolution is a little behind the times - it's just 1.3 megapixels - but it'll work as a webcam if the phone's connected to a PC's USB port.
Perhaps it's the phone's "smokey brown" colour scheme that gives it that "vintage" feel? It's certainly got a dour, retro quality to it reminscent of bakelite radios and their ilk.
The OT-C825 comes with a 128MB MicroSD card for song storage. It's a tri-band GSM device.
Alcatel said the phone will go on sale in the June/July timeframe, but it didn't say how much the Vintage Slider will cost.
